Biographical Sketch

Michael completed his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech in August 2006. His research was on "Service Discovery in Pervasive Computing Environments" (available online). His advisor was Dr. Scott Midkiff. Michael is currently working as an instructor and researcher at Virginia Tech.

Michael attended North Carolina State University for his undergraduate experience and received a B.S. in Computer Engineering. He has a strong background in networking as a result of multiple networking courses, as well as an optical theory course, at NC State.

Michael has been working with networks and system administration since 1996 and is fairly flavored in most areas of computing. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and is a student member of IEEE.

When he isn't rampantly typing away, he spends time at the gym lifting weights and can be found running outside when the weather is warm enough. He holds a fourth degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and an Associate Master instructor’s certification. He taught Tae Kwon Do for five years and enjoys doing so whenever possible.
