Biographical Sketch

Waltemar M. de Sousa Jr. is a Ph.D. student in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. He expects to complete his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering in August 2006. His research focuses on energy-aware routing in heterogeneous ad hoc networks for first responder emergency units. His advisor is Dr. Luiz A. DaSilva.

Waltemar received his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, in December 2002 and December 2000, respectively. He was supported by the Brazilian federal agency CAPES. He has also been a student member of the IEEE for the past 4 years.

From July 2000-2003, Waltemar worked in two projects with GTEL-UFC, a research group of the Federal University of Ceará supported by Ericsson of Brazil. He was a member of CAPES's Special Training Program from 1997 to 2000. Additionally, he worked for 3 months as a research intern at the Institut National des Télécommunications, France, in 2000. Waltemar's hobbies include jogging, working on his home music studio, and being creative.
