Biographical Sketch

Ingrid Burbey is a Ph.D. student in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. She expects to complete her Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering in 2007. Her research focuses on using context-awareness to improve data caching for mobile networks. Her advisor is Dr. Tom Martin.

Ingrid received her B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1982 and her M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1991. Her Master's thesis was funded by the Department of Energy. She is a member of the IEEE Computer Society.

Ingrid is taking a break from her consulting business to pursue her Ph.D. She has been self-employed programming embedded systems for the lottery industry, working for the California State Lottery, the Virginia Lottery, GTECH, AWI (now part of SciGames) and others.

Ingrid is also entertained and kept busy by her husband, their three children, and their little dog. She also plays French Horn in the Blacksburg Community Band.
